Manufacturing Manager

The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for meeting departmental and group quality, product availability and cost goals. The successful candidate will apply in-depth technical and operational knowledge to the management of responsible manufacturing groups as well as manage department budgets, financial plans and compensation to meet business requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for management, oversight and direction of Layup, Panel Bond and Cure departments
  • Demonstrates leadership and inspires direct reports to achieve specific goals
  • Responsible for meeting product deadlines and working effectively with the Production Control department
  • Manages resource requirements to meet production demands
  • Reviews product flows and implements improvement activities
  • Continually monitors departmental performance
  • Manages group to all required internal and external Quality Assurance systems and procedures
  • Identifies needs and assists in the development of competence and awareness programs
  • Initiates and closes corrective and preventative actions
  • Implements continuous improvement activities to improve product quality and departmental productivity
  • Ensures compliance with quality systems and Safety/Occupational Safety & Health Administration (“OSHA”) requirements
  • Participates and/or takes a lead role in new strategic manufacturing-related business initiatives
  • Provides technical input for production and required in-process quality control testing
  • Solves complex, multi-faceted problems requiring ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness
  • Regularly interacts with senior management, and may be called upon to make formal presentations to senior management or interdepartmental meetings
  • Serves as an organizational spokesperson on important projects and programs
  • Represents company in communicating business capabilities and strategies to external customers
  • Additional tasks as requested by upper management

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum 15 years industry experience
  • Five or more years of successful production or related experience at the manufacturing manager level or comparable
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Sets example for demonstrating excellence
  • Shows initiative by taking on new tasks beyond what is generally expected
  • Demonstrated ability to be customer-service oriented
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and/or a minimum of 15 years commensurate experience.

Vice President, Solar Array Programs

The Vice President of Solar Array Programs is responsible for transitioning solar array technology into production deliveries of qualified advanced solar panel and solar array subsystems for spacecraft.

  • Has responsibility for solar panel and solar array flight product bookings, revenue and program profitability
  • Oversees the marketing activity to develop the customer and program base for solar panel and solar array technology
  • Develops and manages key teammates and subcontractors for supporting marketing, proposal and production efforts
  • Grows and manages the Solar Array Programs, including developing the personnel plan, hiring and maintaining key personnel for engineering, production and line management functions
  • Develops and manages a world-class solar panel manufacturing and assembly, integration and test facility
  • Oversees the production and delivery of quality end items to the customers

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the solar array group strategic planning documents—Marketing Plan, Capex/Facility Plan, Personnel Plan, and Program Management and Execution Plan, Quality Assurance/Continuous Improvement, and others as required
  • Provides input to the R&D plan to direct technology development to support enhanced marketability and performance of the solar panel and solar array products—provides the approach for transitioning technology to production including oversight on qualification plans and manufacturing and test plans
  • Assures that program cost, schedule and technical requirements are managed by the PM’s in compliance with company standards to ensure that customer requirements are met
  • Serves as a high visibility focal point for customers and for establishing a rapport of trust and understanding between Vanguard and its customers
  • Works with customers to determine needs, requirements and solutions for new research and development opportunities including pursuit team leadership and management
  • Ensures all resources (such as engineering, manpower, facilities, equipment, tools, etc.) are available for successful program execution
  • Establishes strategic relationships with customers, suppliers and key business partners to strengthen business opportunities with customers

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of spacecraft solar array subsystem designs, manufacturing and markets
  • Familiarity with industry standards and the competitive environment, including marketing strategies and pricing
  • Ability to set up, manage and execute an applied spacecraft quality production line
  • Strong history of effective leadership through communicating, motivating, inspiring and rewarding individuals and teams
  • Successful track record of managing a multi-$M Business Area to meet objectives including, bookings, sales, schedule, quality and customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in leading and managing pursuits and proposals for large, complex programs
  • Proven ability to work effectively with customers, large prime contractors, suppliers and business partners in addition to company senior management

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, preferably in engineering (mechanical, electrical, material science or aerospace) physics or business/management
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience as a Business Area Manager or Product Line Manager for aerospace production hardware, with preference for spacecraft products, and preferably space power products. Knowledge and experience with advanced composite structures is a plus
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
